Release Notes
Major release: 7.0 - 9/28/2026 Major-release
- ODME across an entire network. The new Network ODME workspace supports VISSIM link counts and Synchro turning movements, saved analysis sessions, editable starting matrices, locked cells, count-fit tolerances, linked count and target tables, result review, and interactive OD-pair and count-section displays.
- Map Synchro boundary movements to VISSIM links with automatic or manual targets, map-assisted selection, CSV import, topology validation, saved exclusions, and visual highlighting. OD-pair rules can force selected demand pairs to zero or a fixed value for each demand class.
- Use one working hour throughout the project. A single project setting now keeps traffic counts, ODME, routing, demand displays, and desired-speed analysis synchronized instead of requiring separate time selections in each tool.
- Imported link counts, turning counts, and StreetLight OD data are now stored in a compact SQLite sidecar beside the project. Data is restored when the project opens and carried forward during Save As and settings imports, reducing repeated imports and keeping project files manageable.
- Find and review network problems faster. Network opening, coding checks, and desired-speed analysis now run responsively with progress feedback. A redesigned Diagnostics grid groups related findings, highlights every affected road, explains proposed fixes, and provides review actions without silently changing the model.
- Expanded desired-speed analysis detects conflicts at merges, ramps, lane additions, connectors, and receiving lanes. Normal and All Lanes views can show lane-, vehicle-, time-, and distance-specific speeds, mixed-speed sections, clearer tooltips, and suggested locations for missing or misplaced desired-speed decisions.
- More accurate conflict-area and grade-separation checks. Diagnostics distinguish merges, shared departures, yielding movements, signal-controlled crossings, and true conflicts. OSM evidence, elevation and geometry checks, offline caching, and a dedicated Crossing Checks workspace help review, mark, restore, and navigate grade-separated crossings.
- Added calibration guidance for VDOT, WisDOT, Oregon DOT, WSDOT, MDOT, FDOT, Iowa DOT, and Michigan DOT, including parameter ranges, previews, and source links. Driving-behavior views now provide clearer car-following and lane-change comparisons, units, inactive-state shading, and box plots.
- Added web-map search for US ZIP codes, addresses, cities, counties, and states, plus multiple-match selection, drag-to-zoom, and multi-segment distance measurement. Map tools now coordinate their active modes to avoid conflicting interactions.
- Improved signal-controller review with Signal details and responsive timing diagrams now show rings, barriers, phases, patterns, schedules, overlaps, pedestrian intervals, detectors, communications, preemption, and transit priority, with split warnings and detector-port validation.
- Redesigned the COM batch-run editor as an inline grid with multi-file add and remove, browsing, duplicate and missing-file validation, support for legacy and current VISSIM and layout formats, CSV import and export, and safer handling of unsaved edits.
- Improved day-to-day network editing with overlapping-object cycling using Tab and Shift+Tab, persistent multi-link and connector selections, a read-only Network Object Display overview, clearer Network and Preferences navigation, and more consistent map selection behavior.
- Improved turning-movement arrows and labels across maps, diagrams, Synchro views, and ODME; reorganized Options into clearer scrollable sections; and enhanced route-path replacement with static-destination updates, safer eligibility checks, endpoint synchronization, and better path details.
- Review simulation results without leaving the main workspace. The new MOE Outputs panel brings Data Collection, Queue Counter, Link Evaluation, Node Evaluation, Travel Time, Simulation Run, and Vehicle Network Performance results below the map. Results load when selected, with
.attimport and map navigation where supported. - Choose MOE result time periods in Options using clear start-to-end ranges. Selected periods, imported result-file paths, and vehicle-record time ranges are saved with each VHelper project instead of being shared across projects.
- Do more from Network Objects. Browse and filter DTA paths and matrices, VISSIM zones, Data Collection Points and Measurements, detectors, conflict areas, obstacles, pavement markings, bus stops, parking lots, and queue counters. Related tools and map navigation are now available alongside their object lists.
- Inspect DTA matrices in a sortable, virtualized grid with heatmap values, totals, and cell details. Filter and highlight DTA paths on the map, and create or maintain Data Collection Points along manual or saved corridor paths from the browser.
- Control object visibility, colors, and labels directly from the Network Objects browser. Automatic high-contrast label colors, a display overview in Options, and clearer hit areas make network objects easier to see and select.
- Manage temporary map analysis in one place. Volume bandwidth, queue zones, route and path highlights, and other analysis overlays can be shown or cleared without changing the underlying network display. Bandwidth and link-segment demand labels now remain available across link display modes.
- Explore queues and lane-changing behavior with richer map overlays. Queue zones can use Queue Counter or Node Evaluation results, with node queues grouped by approach or shown by turn movement; lane-change and emergency-stop zones now show their distance ranges and likely upstream queue branches.
- Improved map and heatmap readability with road-aware link and connector label placement, configurable inside/outside labels, better-fitting network-object labels, and adaptive speed-heatmap text colors.
- Customize path and analysis-overlay colors, plus speed and density palettes with fixed ranges or continuous gradients. Live previews and reliable OK, Cancel, and Defaults controls make display changes easier to evaluate.
- Moved vehicle-record plotting into a dedicated Time-Space Diagram window and added a clearer Analysis navigation area. Node diagram layout and turn overrides are now project-specific, with turn overrides accessible from Node Evaluation results.
- Choose whether to save ODME result matrices in the
.vhelperproject file. Results remain session-only by default to keep project files smaller, and path-constraint validation now gives clearer guidance when required counts are missing. - A more polished look and feel. Professionally designed vector icons bring a consistent appearance to toolbars, tabs, and object lists, while improved layouts make key tools and results easier to find.
- Improved metric and imperial labels and tooltips, and made traffic-count imports more resilient to invalid cells while reporting warnings.
- Analyze surrogate safety results directly in VHelper. The standalone SSAM workspace imports conflict files, filters and summarizes conflicts, controls their map visibility, navigates to selected events, exports GeoJSON, and converts VISSIM FZP vehicle records into trajectory files.
- Create better starting networks from OpenStreetMap. A persistent OSM workflow supports the whole network, current view, selected sections, or user-drawn polygons; configurable road types and mappings; name filters; buildings and fallback heights; VISSIM templates; and saved import areas. Lane-aware topology handles directional lanes, turn lanes, widths, divided roads, roundabouts, ramps, merges, exits, and turn restrictions, with clear warnings for incomplete or reversible roads.
Major release: 6.0 - 9/12/2026 Major-release
- Traffic counts in. A ready-to-run VISSIM model out. VHelper performs corridor OD Matrix Estimation using traffic counts and StreetLight OD data, then creates Vehicle Inputs, Vehicle Compositions, and complete end-to-end Static Routings.
- Process every corridor in one workflow. VHelper processes freeways before arterials, coordinates freeway-arterial demand handoffs, and prevents duplicate interface inputs.
- Added vehicle-class-aware ODME for GP, Express/HOT, collector-distributor, and arterial demand, including observed internal-flow constraints on counted links and connectors.
- ODME results are saved by corridor, demand role, and time period. Stable zone IDs, per-zone participation controls, balance summaries, assigned-count comparison, matrix export, and OD-path visualization simplify review and refinement.
- VHelper automatically discovers corridor zones, ramps, managed-lane transfers, and feasible paths. Improved geometry handling prevents false turn-bay zones, incorrect ramp placement, and unreasonable off-ramp/on-ramp detours.
- Redesigned Auto Generate with text-file or Excel-range sources for Vehicle Compositions, Vehicle Inputs, and static-routing OD matrices. Workbook, worksheet, and range settings are saved with the project.
- Improved time-period handling by automatically selecting applicable routing periods, warning when a calculation spans a routing change, and writing explicit zero route fractions where VISSIM would otherwise treat a missing value as one.
- Added section-based subarea extraction with preview and INPX export, including boundary-link trimming, rewritten routes, generated boundary inputs, and removal of out-of-area dependent objects.
- Expanded the Network Objects browser with links and connectors, routing decisions and routes, Vehicle Inputs and Compositions, driving behaviors, Levels, signal controllers, transit lines, travel-time measurements, and VISSIM Sections.
- Centralized Travel Time Measurement creation and management, with searchable records, map navigation, path extraction, INRIX and crossed-node creation, corridor-path reuse, and clearer per-record import results.
- Improved performance and diagnostics with asynchronous demand and routing calculations, progress reporting, a virtualized OD matrix, dedicated Diagnostics and SSAM windows, and new checks for looping routes, freeway detours, and signal-head bypasses.
- Added safer project handling with VHelper file-format checks, automatic
.vhelper.bakbackup and recovery, and protection against overwriting settings created by a newer unsupported version. - Expanded Revise Coordinates to transform links, connectors, Nodes, Sections, and obstacles with validation and source-file backup. Retired the legacy USGS elevation and bulk link XYZ editing tools.
- Improved map alignment, interactive vehicle-type demand views, import feedback, destructive-action confirmations, and network-object counts throughout the workflow.
- Added a reusable freeway and arterial ODME count-comparison window that compares assigned demand with imported traffic counts. Set a difference threshold, highlight over- and under-assigned locations on the map, and double-click a row to zoom to the corresponding link or movement.
- Added Excel-based interval distribution imports for 15- and 30-minute demand factors. Imported factors are applied automatically when ODME Vehicle Inputs are created, with validation and clearer import summaries.
- Improved traffic-count and StreetLight OD imports. Excel workbooks can now be read while open, missing Day Type or Day Part values are treated as
ALL, and the import workflow provides clearer format guidance and completion feedback. - Reorganized the OD matrix, corridor analysis, and Advanced Routing workspaces to provide more room for matrices, clearer workflow steps, improved help text, and better window sizing.
- Improved OD-zone and corridor count diagrams with stable zone IDs, better marker and label placement, orientation-aware ramp geometry, reduced overlap on closely spaced ramps, dashed markers for unmapped StreetLight zones, and an adjustable ramp-line length setting.
- Added a project-wide reset for generated zone assignments and ODME results while preserving corridor definitions, imported data, and existing VISSIM network objects. Stale corridor-path warnings are now consolidated instead of repeatedly interrupting the user.
- Improved desired-speed resolution when creating ODME Vehicle Compositions. VHelper now uses vehicle-type and vehicle-class-specific desired speed decisions on the entry link, falls back to same-link reduced speed areas, and provides clearer diagnostics when required speed data is missing.
